Classic Southern Sausage Gravy
Ingredients:
1 lb (450 g) breakfast sausage
¼ cup all-purpose flour
3 cups whole milk
Salt, to taste
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Warm biscuits, for serving
Instructions:
1. In a large skillet set over medium heat, cook the sausage until it’s fully browned and crumbly, about 5–7 minutes.
2. Sprinkle the flour evenly over the cooked sausage. Stir continuously until the flour fully absorbs the sausage drippings, forming a thick paste.
3. Gradually pour in the milk while whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Continue stirring as the gravy begins to thicken, about 5–7 minutes.
4. Once the gravy reaches your desired consistency, season generously with black pepper and add salt to taste.
5. Serve the rich, creamy sausage gravy spooned over warm, flaky biscuits.
Tip: For extra flavor, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a dash of hot sauce to the gravy before serving.
