On June 3, 1971, Crystal Gayle married Bill Gatzimos, the high school sweetheart who had loved Brenda Gail Webb before the world knew her stage name.
She was twenty, newly signed to Decca Records, and still searching for a sound that belonged to her.
Bill was a Greek American law student with a quiet belief that her voice could travel far beyond their Indiana beginnings.
They didn’t wait for success.
They chose each other first.
Crystal was the youngest of eight children. She also happened to be the younger sister of country legend Loretta Lynn.
She sang in church and school choirs before stepping into the music business.
Her early records struggled.
The industry kept trying to shape her into another Loretta.
Bill never saw those setbacks as failure.
He urged her to keep searching for her own voice.
Together, they even wrote songs. One of them, **”Beyond You,”** found its way onto her first United Artists album, turning their private partnership into music.
Bill finished law school at Vanderbilt University.
Then he became far more than an attorney.

Chris studied accounting and business before becoming a producer and engineer.
Years after his parents wrote songs together, he co-produced Crystal’s 2019 album, *You Don’t Know Me.*
