Layered Vanilla and Chocolate Custard Dessert

Ingredients

For the Vanilla Custard:

  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Chocolate Custard:

  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder

Optional Toppings:

  • Whipped cream
  • Chocolate shavings or sprinkles
  • Fresh berries

Instructions

1. Make the Vanilla Custard:

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups milk and 3 tablespoons sugar. Heat over medium heat until warm (do not boil).
  2. In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons cornstarch with a few tablespoons of cold milk from the saucepan to make a smooth slurry.
  3. Slowly add the slurry back into the warm milk while stirring continuously.
  4. Cook for 4–5 minutes until the mixture thickens.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
  6. Pour the vanilla custard into serving glasses or a dish as the first layer. Let it cool slightly, then refrigerate for 10–15 minutes to set.

2. Make the Chocolate Custard:

  1. In a clean saucepan, combine 2 cups milk, 3 tablespoons sugar, and 2 tablespoons cocoa powder. Heat until warm.
  2. Mix 2 tablespoons cornstarch with a little cold milk to make a slurry and add it slowly to the warm mixture, stirring constantly.
  3. Cook for 4–5 minutes until thickened.
  4. Let the chocolate custard cool slightly.

3. Assemble the Dessert:

  1. Gently pour the chocolate custard over the set vanilla layer.
  2. Smooth the top with a spatula and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until fully set.

4. Serve:

  • Top with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or fresh berries if desired.
  • Serve chilled and enjoy!
