Christmas Trifle Dessert
A fun, layered holiday dessert with red velvet cake, green-and-white cake, and a rich, creamy filling that tastes like a cheesecake cloud.
Ingredients
For the Cakes
- 1 box white cake mix, prepared per package directions
- 1 box red velvet cake mix, prepared per package directions
- Green food coloring (about 8–12 drops)
Creamy Filling
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
- 1 tub (8 oz) whipped topping, thawed
Optional Garnishes
- Christmas sprinkles
- Crushed candy canes
- White chocolate curls
- Whipped cream
Instructions
1. Bake the Cakes
- Prepare the white cake mix according to the box.
- Before baking, divide the batter in half.
- Leave one half white, and tint the second half green using 8–12 drops of green food coloring.
- Bake the white and green batters in separate pans (or one pan, swirling colors—your choice).
- Bake the red velvet cake per package instructions.
- Let all cakes cool completely, then crumble them into chunks or cubes.
2. Make the Creamy Filling
- In a bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth.
- Add the sweetened condensed milk and mix until creamy.
- Fold in the whipped topping gently until fully combined.
3. Assemble the Trifle
In a large trifle dish (or individual cups):
- Add a layer of red velvet cake pieces.
- Spoon a layer of creamy filling over the cake.
- Add a layer of green cake pieces.
- Add another layer of cream filling.
- Add the white cake pieces.
- Repeat until the dish is full, ending with cream on top.
4. Decorate
Top with:
- Christmas sprinkles
- Crushed peppermint
- Whipped cream
- White chocolate curls
Chill
Refrigerate for 2–4 hours before serving so the layers set.
Tips
- For extra flavor, brush cake layers lightly with vanilla syrup.
- Add chopped strawberries or raspberries for a fruity twist.
- Can be made one day ahead—it gets even better!
