Shine On! – Moonshine-Style
A bold, corn-forward cocktail that captures the essence of traditional moonshine, perfect for anyone exploring the world of spirits safely.
Ingredients
Corn Syrup Base
- 1 cup cornmeal or cracked corn
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup sugar or honey
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Cocktail
- 2 oz legal high-proof alcohol (Everclear, high-proof vodka, or 151-proof rum)
- 1 oz corn syrup base (from above)
- 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
- 2–3 dashes Angostura bitters (optional)
- Ice
- Lemon slice or twist for garnish
Instructions
1️⃣ Make the Corn Syrup Base
- Combine cornmeal and water in a small saucepan.
- Simmer gently for 10–15 minutes.
- Add sugar or honey and stir until fully dissolved.
- Remove from heat and let cool completely.
- Strain through a fine sieve or cheesecloth to get a smooth syrup.
- Add vanilla extract if desired.
- Store in the fridge for up to one week.
2️⃣ Mix the Shine Cocktail
- Fill a shaker with ice.
- Add high-proof alcohol, lemon juice, and 1 oz corn syrup base.
- Shake vigorously until well chilled.
- Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice.
- Add bitters if you want a deeper, aromatic flavor.
- Garnish with a lemon slice or twist.
