Shine On! – Moonshine-Style 

 

A bold, corn-forward cocktail that captures the essence of traditional moonshine, perfect for anyone exploring the world of spirits safely.

Ingredients

Corn Syrup Base

  • 1 cup cornmeal or cracked corn
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar or honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Cocktail

  • 2 oz legal high-proof alcohol (Everclear, high-proof vodka, or 151-proof rum)
  • 1 oz corn syrup base (from above)
  • 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 2–3 dashes Angostura bitters (optional)
  • Ice
  • Lemon slice or twist for garnish

Instructions

1️⃣ Make the Corn Syrup Base

  1. Combine cornmeal and water in a small saucepan.
  2. Simmer gently for 10–15 minutes.
  3. Add sugar or honey and stir until fully dissolved.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  5. Strain through a fine sieve or cheesecloth to get a smooth syrup.
  6. Add vanilla extract if desired.
  7. Store in the fridge for up to one week.

2️⃣ Mix the Shine Cocktail

  1. Fill a shaker with ice.
  2. Add high-proof alcohol, lemon juice, and 1 oz corn syrup base.
  3. Shake vigorously until well chilled.
  4. Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice.
  5. Add bitters if you want a deeper, aromatic flavor.
  6. Garnish with a lemon slice or twist.
