Ingredients

1 box angel food cake mix, prepared according to package directions

1 can (21 ounces) cherry pie filling

1 package (3.4 ounces) instant vanilla pudding mix

1 cup cold milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 container (8 ounces) whipped topping, thawed

1 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt

Fresh cherries, for garnish (optional)

White chocolate shavings or sliced almonds, for garnish (optional)

 

 

 

Instructions

Prepare the angel food cake according to the package instructions. Bake in a tube pan until golden and springy to the touch. Allow the cake to cool completely, then remove it from the pan.

In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mix, cold milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and slightly thickened.

Fold in the sour cream until fully incorporated. Then gently fold in half of the whipped topping until the mixture is light, creamy, and fluffy.

Slice the cooled angel food cake horizontally into three even layers.

Place the bottom layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous layer of the creamy filling over the cake, then spoon some cherry pie filling on top.

Add the second cake layer and repeat with more cream and cherries.

Place the final cake layer on top. Frost the top and sides with the remaining whipped topping.

Spoon the remaining cherry pie filling over the top, allowing some to cascade down the sides for a beautiful presentation.

Garnish with fresh cherries, white chocolate shavings, or sliced almonds if desired.

Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld and the cake to set.
