Homemade No-Fail Everyday Bread

Homemade No-Fail Everyday Bread

After this recipe, you’ll never buy bread again! Soft inside, golden outside, and made with simple pantry ingredients.

Ingredients

4 tablespoons (60 ml) olive oil

1 tablespoon (10 g) dry yeast

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon sugar or honey (feeds the yeast)

1⅓ cups (320 ml) warm water (not hot)

4¾ cups (570 g) plain flour (all-purpose), plus extra for dusting

Instructions

1️⃣ Activate the Yeast

In a large bowl, mix:

Warm water

Sugar or honey

Dry yeast

Stir gently and let it sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.

This means the yeast is alive and ready.

2️⃣ Mix the Dough

Add to the yeast mixture:

Olive oil

Salt

Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing with a spoon or your hand until a soft dough forms.

3️⃣ Knead

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface.

Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth, elastic, and not sticky.

(If sticky, sprinkle a little flour—don’t overdo it.)

4️⃣ First Rise

Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl.

Cover with a clean towel or plastic wrap.

Let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

5️⃣ Shape the Bread

Punch down the dough to release air.

Shape into:

One large loaf, or

Two medium loaves, or

Rolls

Place on a greased baking tray or in a loaf pan.

6️⃣ Second Rise

Cover and let rise again for 30 minutes until puffy.

7️⃣ Bake

Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).

Bake for 30–35 minutes, until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.

Optional: Brush the top with olive oil or butter when hot for a soft crust.
