Creamy Shrimp Stew
A comforting and flavorful dish, rich with tender shrimp, fresh vegetables, and a velvety cream sauce — perfect for cozy dinners or elegant gatherings.
Ingredients (Serves 4)
400g peeled shrimp (fresh or frozen)
2 carrots, diced
150g Paris mushrooms, sliced
1 onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
1 bay leaf
1 sprig of thyme
20g flour
30g butter (or neutral oil)
200ml light cream or plant-based cream
400ml vegetable or shrimp broth
Salt and pepper, to taste
A squeeze of lemon juice (optional)
Instructions
1️⃣ Prepare the vegetables
Peel and dice the carrots. Finely chop the onion and garlic. Slice the mushrooms thinly.
2️⃣ Sauté the base
In a large pan or pot, melt the butter (or heat the oil).
Add the onion, garlic, carrots, mushrooms, thyme, and bay leaf.
Sauté gently over medium heat for about 8–10 minutes, until fragrant and softened.
3️⃣ Add the flour
Sprinkle the flour over the vegetables and stir well to coat them evenly.
Cook for 1–2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
4️⃣ Pour in the broth
Gradually add the broth while stirring to avoid lumps.
Simmer over low heat for about 10 minutes, until the sauce slightly thickens.
5️⃣ Cook the shrimp
Add the shrimp to the pan and cook for 5–7 minutes, just until they turn pink and tender.
6️⃣ Finish with cream
Stir in the cream, then season with salt and pepper to taste.
Add a touch of lemon juice for brightness, if desired.
7️⃣ Serve
Serve hot, garnished with chopped parsley or chives.
