Old-Fashioned Chocolate Peanut Butter Eggs

Old-Fashioned Chocolate Peanut Butter Eggs
Nana’s No-Bake Treat You’ll Want to Hide from Everyone
These homemade peanut butter eggs are the kind of sweet treat that disappears faster than you can make them. My Nana Margaret used to keep a secret stash tucked away in the back of the fridge—otherwise, we’d eat them all in one day.
Made with just a handful of simple ingredients, these no-bake candies have a soft, creamy peanut butter center coated in a smooth layer of chocolate. They’re a little rustic, a little imperfect, and absolutely delicious—just like something you’d find in a cozy small-town bakery.
The hardest part? Waiting for them to chill before sneaking a bite.
Servings:
18–24 eggs
Ingredients:
1 cup (250 g) creamy peanut butter
4 tablespoons (60 g) butter, softened
2 cups (240 g) powdered sugar
2 cups (340 g) chocolate chips
Optional:
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of salt (if using unsalted peanut butter)
Instructions:
1. Make the peanut butter filling
In a mixing bowl, combine:
Peanut butter
Softened butter
Powdered sugar
Mix until a thick, smooth dough forms.
If using, add vanilla and a pinch of salt.
2. Shape the eggs
Scoop out small portions of the mixture
Roll into oval or egg shapes by hand
Place on a parchment-lined tray
3. Chill
Refrigerate the shaped eggs for 30–45 minutes, or until firm.
(This makes dipping much easier.)
4. Melt the chocolate
Melt chocolate chips in a microwave (in 20–30 second intervals, stirring each time)
or
Use a double boiler until smooth
5. Dip the eggs
Using a fork or toothpick, dip each peanut butter egg into the melted chocolate
Let excess chocolate drip off
Place back on parchment paper
6. Set and chill again
Refrigerate for another 20–30 minutes until the chocolate coating is firm.
How to Serve:
Serve straight from the fridge for the best texture
Pair with a cold glass of milk or hot coffee/tea
Arrange on a parchment-lined plate for a cozy dessert spread
Sharing Ideas:
Pack into a small tin or gift box
Great for holidays, family gatherings, or homemade gifts
Tips for Success:
If the filling is too soft, add a little more powdered sugar
If too firm, mix in a small spoon of peanut butter
Work quickly when dipping so the eggs stay cold
Fun Variations:
Drizzle white chocolate on top for decoration
Add crushed peanuts for a crunchy texture
Use dark chocolate for a richer flavor
Rich, creamy, and just a little nostalgic—these are the kind of treats worth hiding… if you can resist eating them all first.
