Old-Fashioned Southern Peach Cobbler

Nothing beats the comforting taste of a homemade peach cobbler fresh from the oven. Juicy peaches are baked in a sweet cinnamon-spiced filling and topped with a buttery, golden crust that’s crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. Serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the ultimate dessert experience!

Ingredients

For the Peach Filling

6 cups fresh peaches, peeled and sliced

½ cup granulated sugar

¼ cup brown sugar

1 tablespoon lemon juice

2 tablespoons cornstarch

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

For the Cobbler Topping

1 cup all-purpose flour

½ cup granulated sugar

1½ teaspoons baking powder

¼ teaspoon salt

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

¼ cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Filling

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced peaches, granulated sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss gently until the peaches are evenly coated.

Transfer the peach mixture to a lightly greased 9-inch baking dish and spread it evenly.

Step 2: Make the Cobbler Topping

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Add the melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract. Stir until a soft batter forms. Do not overmix.

Step 3: Assemble the Cobbler

Drop spoonfuls of the batter over the peach filling, leaving a few gaps for the peaches to bubble through as they bake.

Step 4: Bake

Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the peach filling is bubbling around the edges.

Step 5: Cool and Serve

Allow the cobbler to cool for about 10 minutes before serving.

Serve warm on its own or topped with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or a drizzle of caramel sauce.

Tips for the Best Peach Cobbler

Fresh peaches provide the best flavor, but frozen peaches can be used if thawed and drained first.

Add a pinch of ginger for extra warmth and depth.

Sprinkle a little coarse sugar on top before baking for a delicious crunchy finish.
