Slow Cooker Cracker Barrel Fried Apples

Slow Cooker Cracker Barrel Fried Apples
Ingredients
3–4 lbs apples, peeled, cored, and sliced into thick wedges
(Granny Smith, Fuji, or Golden Delicious work best)
2 tablespoons cornstarch
½ cup brown sugar (packed)
¼ cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ cup unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
¼ cup apple juice or water
Pinch of salt
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Apples
Peel, core, and slice the apples into thick wedges. Place them directly into the slow cooker.
Step 2: Mix the Thickener
In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and apple juice (or water) until smooth. This prevents lumps and helps thicken the sauce.
Step 3: Add Sweetness & Spice
Sprinkle the apples with:
Brown sugar
Granulated sugar
Cinnamon
Nutmeg (if using)
Salt
Pour the cornstarch mixture over the apples and gently toss to coat.
Step 4: Add Butter & Vanilla
Drizzle the vanilla extract over the apples.
Scatter the butter pieces evenly on top.
Step 5: Slow Cook
Cover and cook:
LOW for 4–5 hours
or
HIGH for 2–3 hours
Stir gently once or twice during cooking if possible.
Step 6: Finish & Serve
When apples are tender and the sauce is thick and glossy, give them a final gentle stir. Let sit uncovered for 10–15 minutes to thicken slightly more.
Serve warm.
Serving Ideas

Tips
Thicker apple slices prevent mushiness
For extra richness, add 1 more tablespoon of butter
For less sweetness, reduce sugar slightly—apples vary naturally
