Golden Three-Ingredient Potato Comfort Bake

Golden Three-Ingredient Potato Comfort Bake

When the budget is tight but you still crave something warm and satisfying, this humble dish delivers. Inspired by old-school, resourceful cooking, it transforms the simplest staples into a rich, golden bake with crispy edges and a soft, fluffy center. It’s the kind of meal that feels like comfort on a plate—filling, affordable, and deeply nostalgic.

Servings: 4

Ingredients:

4–5 large potatoes, thinly sliced

4–5 tablespoons fat (butter, oil, or any available cooking fat)

Salt, to taste

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Lightly grease a baking dish.

Layer the potatoes: Arrange a layer of thinly sliced potatoes in the dish. Sprinkle with salt and drizzle a bit of fat. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used.

Bake uncovered for 50–60 minutes, or until the top is deeply golden and crisp, and the inside is tender.

Rest briefly, then cut into thick squares or wedges and serve hot.

Serving Ideas:

This dish is hearty enough to stand on its own, but you can stretch it further with simple sides:

A fresh green salad or sautéed cabbage

Steamed carrots or peas

A fried or poached egg on top for extra protein

Tips:

Leftovers can be reheated in a pan for a crispy finish.

Add a spoonful of yogurt or sour cream if you have it—it brings a nice tangy contrast.

If available, a pinch of pepper or garlic can boost the flavor without raising the cost.

Simple, affordable, and surprisingly delicious—this is proof that great food doesn’t need many ingredients.
