Grandma Helen’s 4-Ingredient Butterscotch Pecan Bars

Grandma Helen’s 4-Ingredient Butterscotch Pecan Bars (Potluck “Secret Weapon” Dessert)
These 4-ingredient butterscotch pecan bars are the kind of old-fashioned, no-fuss dessert that always disappears first at any gathering. My Grandma Helen used to bring them to every church potluck and family get-together, proudly calling them her “secret weapon” because people could never believe something so simple tasted this good. A buttery graham cracker crust, a rich sweetened condensed milk layer, melty butterscotch chips, and crunchy pecans come together into a chewy, gooey, golden dessert bar that feels like pure comfort.
They’re quick to assemble, require no mixer, and bake beautifully in a single dish—perfect for busy days, last-minute guests, or when you just want something sweet without the effort.
Ingredients (4 Ingredients Only)
2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 can (14 oz / 397 g) sweetened condensed milk
1 1/2 cups butterscotch chips
1 cup chopped pecans
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease or line a ceramic or glass baking dish (8×8 or 9×9 works well).
Make the crust:
In a bowl, mix the graham cracker crumbs with melted butter until the texture looks like wet sand. Press firmly into the bottom of the baking dish to form an even crust layer.
Add the filling:
Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the crust, spreading gently so it covers the entire surface.
Top it off:
Sprinkle butterscotch chips evenly over the condensed milk layer, followed by the chopped pecans.
Bake:
Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbling slightly.
Cool completely:
Let the bars cool fully before slicing. This helps them set and makes clean, neat squares.
Serving Ideas
Serve these bars straight from the baking dish at room temperature for potlucks or casual gatherings. They pair perfectly with coffee, tea, or a cold glass of milk. For an extra indulgent treat, warm a square for a few seconds in the microwave and top it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
At parties, cut them into small bite-sized squares so guests can sample them alongside other desserts or savory snacks.
