Introduction
Once you try this soft, fluffy, and golden homemade bread, you may never want store-bought bread again! With simple pantry ingredients and an easy method, this rustic loaf comes out perfectly every time — crispy on the outside and wonderfully soft inside. Perfect for sandwiches, breakfast, soups, or simply warm with butter.
Ingredients
4 tablespoons (60 ml) olive oil
1 tablespoon (10 g) dry yeast
1 teaspoon salt
1⅓ cups (320 ml) warm water
4¾ cups (570 g) all-purpose flour
Instructions
Activate the Yeast
In a large bowl, combine the warm water and dry yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Mix the Dough
Add the olive oil and salt, then gradually mix in the flour until a soft dough forms.
Knead the Dough
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shape the Bread
Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf or round bread. Place it on a baking tray or in a loaf pan.
Second Rise
Cover again and let rise for another 30 minutes.
Bake
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
Cool & Serve
Let the bread cool slightly before slicing. Enjoy warm with butter, jam, cheese, or your favorite meal.
Tips for Perfect Bread
Use warm, not hot, water to activate the yeast properly.
Brush the top with olive oil or melted butter for a softer crust.
Add herbs, garlic, or cheese for extra flavor.
