Cheesy Tater Tot Meatloaf Casserole

Ingredients

1 lb (450 g) ground beef

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 bag (32 oz / 900 g) frozen tater tots

1 cup milk

1 large egg

½ cup breadcrumbs (or crushed crackers)

½ cup ketchup, divided

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)

Optional topping: extra cheese or chopped parsley

 

 

 

Instructions

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

Make the meatloaf base:

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, milk, egg, breadcrumbs, ¼ cup ketchup, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently until just combined.

Layer the casserole:

Press the meat mixture evenly into the bottom of the baking dish. Spread the remaining ¼ cup ketchup over the top.

Add cheese:

Sprinkle shredded cheddar evenly over the meat layer.

Top with tater tots:

Arrange frozen tater tots in a single layer over the cheese.

Bake:

Place in the oven and bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes, until:

Meat is fully cooked

Tater tots are golden and crispy

Rest & serve:

Let sit 5 minutes before slicing. Garnish if desired and serve hot.

 

 

 

Tips & Variations

Use half beef, half ground turkey for a lighter version

Swap cheddar for Colby-Jack or mozzarella

Add BBQ sauce instead of ketchup for a smoky twist

Toss tots with a little oil for extra crispiness
