Cozy 4-Ingredient Ham & Cheese Pasta Bake – The Ultimate Prairie Comfort Dish

On freezing prairie evenings when the wind shakes the windows and dinner needs to be simple but deeply satisfying, my busy neighbor June relies on this no-fuss pasta bake. As a school bus driver and grandmother always on the move, she’s perfected this 4-ingredient ham and cheese pasta that brings everyone to the table without any stress.

It’s the kind of old-fashioned comfort food that tastes like home—creamy, cheesy, warm, and filling. Tender pasta is coated in a rich sauce, folded with smoky ham, and melted Swiss cheese that turns golden and bubbly in the oven. Simple ingredients, big comfort.

Ingredients:

12 oz pasta (penne, rotini, or elbow macaroni)

2 cups cooked ham, diced

2 cups Swiss cheese, shredded

2 cups heavy cream (or a mix of cream and milk for a lighter version)

Instructions:

Cook the pasta

Boil pasta in salted water until just al dente. Drain and set aside.

Mix everything together

In a large bowl, combine hot pasta, diced ham, and cream. Stir until everything is evenly coated.

Add the cheese

Mix in most of the Swiss cheese, saving a handful for the top.

Bake until bubbly

Pour into a greased baking dish, sprinkle remaining cheese on top, and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20–25 minutes until golden, bubbly, and slightly crisp on top.

Serving Tip:

Let it sit for a few minutes before serving so the sauce thickens slightly. Perfect with a simple green salad or warm bread.

A humble, hearty dish like this proves that the best comfort food doesn’t need more than a few ingredients—just the right ones.
