Total: Up to 8 hours
Servings:
6 servings
Ingredients
2.5–3 lb (1–1.5 kg) beef chuck roast
1½ cups applesauce (unsweetened or lightly sweetened)
1 large onion (sliced)
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp garlic powder
½ tsp black pepper
Instructions
1. Prepare the base
Place sliced onions at the bottom of the slow cooker
This helps flavor the meat and prevents sticking

Put the chuck roast on top of the onions
3. Add the sauce
Pour applesauce evenly over the roast
Add soy sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper on top
4. Cook
Cover and cook:
LOW: 6–8 hours (best for tenderness)
HIGH: 4–5 hours
The beef is ready when it’s fork-tender and easy to pull apart
5. Finish & serve
Slice or shred the beef
Stir the sauce slightly to combine applesauce, juices, and onions
Spoon the rich apple-onion gravy over the meat
Serving Ideas
Serve with:
Mashed potatoes

Tips
For richer flavor: Sear the beef in a pan before slow cooking (optional)
Too thin sauce? Let it cook uncovered for 20 minutes or mash some onions into it
Too thick? Add a splash of beef broth or water
Variations
Add carrots and potatoes for a full one-pot meal
Sprinkle a little cinnamon or paprika for a warm twist
Use beef broth instead of soy sauce for a milder taste
