Heavenly Cream-Filled Cannoli Shells
Golden, crisp pastry shells wrapped around a rich and fluffy sweet cream filling — these homemade cannoli taste like they came straight from an Italian bakery. Perfect for holidays, coffee dates, or whenever you want an extra-special dessert.
Ingredients
For the Cannoli Shells
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 tablespoons butter, softened
1 egg yolk
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sweet Marsala wine or milk
Oil for frying
For the Cream Filling
2 cups ricotta cheese, well drained
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
Optional: chopped pistachios or candied orange peel for garnish
Instructions
Make the Dough
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Mix in the softened butter until crumbly. Add the egg yolk and Marsala wine, then knead until a smooth dough forms.
Cover and let the dough rest for 30 minutes.
Shape the Shells
Roll the dough very thin on a lightly floured surface. Cut into 4-inch circles or ovals. Wrap each piece around a metal cannoli tube and seal the edges with a little water.
Fry Until Golden
Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry the shells in batches for 2–3 minutes, until crisp and golden brown.
Carefully remove from the oil and let cool completely before sliding out the metal tubes.
Prepare the Filling
In a bowl, beat together the ricotta, powdered sugar, and vanilla until creamy and smooth. Fold in the mini chocolate chips.
Chill the filling for at least 20 minutes for the best texture.
Fill and Serve
Pipe the sweet cream filling into both ends of each cooled shell. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and garnish with pistachios or extra chocolate chips if desired.
Serve fresh and enjoy every crunchy, creamy bite!
