Homemade Steak Sauce Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 ¼ cups ketchup
- 2 tablespoons prepared yellow mustard
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 ½ tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce (for depth and saltiness)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar (for a touch of sweetness)
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- A pinch of cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients
In a small saucepan, whisk together ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, and brown sugar until well mixed. - Add Seasonings
Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Mix thoroughly. - Simmer the Sauce
Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
Cook for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly and flavors blend together. - Taste and Adjust
Taste the sauce — add a little more vinegar for tang, sugar for sweetness, or Worcestershire for extra savoriness as desired. - Cool and Store
Remove from heat and let the sauce cool completely.
Pour into a clean jar or bottle and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
Serving Ideas
- Brush it on grilled steak, burgers, or ribs.
- Use it as a dipping sauce for fries or chicken tenders.
- Mix it into ground beef for flavorful homemade burgers.
