Homemade Steak Sauce Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 ¼ cups ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons prepared yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 ½ tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (for depth and saltiness)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (for a touch of sweetness)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • A pinch of cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients
In a small saucepan, whisk together ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, and brown sugar until well mixed.
  2. Add Seasonings
Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Mix thoroughly.
  3. Simmer the Sauce
Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
Cook for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly and flavors blend together.
  4. Taste and Adjust
Taste the sauce — add a little more vinegar for tang, sugar for sweetness, or Worcestershire for extra savoriness as desired.
  5. Cool and Store
Remove from heat and let the sauce cool completely.
Pour into a clean jar or bottle and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.

Serving Ideas

  • Brush it on grilled steak, burgers, or ribs.
  • Use it as a dipping sauce for fries or chicken tenders.
  • Mix it into ground beef for flavorful homemade burgers.
