Once you try this easy homemade bread recipe, bakery bread might never make it onto your shopping list again! Soft on the inside, golden on the outside, and made with simple pantry ingredients — these fluffy bread rolls are perfect for breakfast, sandwiches, or serving warm with butter.
Ingredients
4 tablespoons (60 ml) olive oil
1 tablespoon (10 g) dry yeast
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/3 cups (320 ml) warm water
4 3/4 cups (570 g) all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 egg yolk (for brushing)
Sesame or black seeds for topping (optional)
Instructions
Activate the Yeast
In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Prepare the Dough
Add olive oil and salt to the yeast mixture. Gradually mix in the flour until a soft dough forms.
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shape the Bread
Punch down the dough and divide it into equal portions. Shape into rolls or one large loaf and place on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
Second Rise
Cover again and let rise for 20–30 minutes.
Bake
Brush the tops with egg yolk and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 20–25 minutes or until beautifully golden brown.
Serve & Enjoy
Let the bread cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with butter, cheese, jam, or your favorite meal.
Tips
For extra softness, place a small bowl of water in the oven while baking.
