Slow Cooker 4-Ingredient Amish Beef Stroganoff

Slow Cooker 4-Ingredient Amish Beef Stroganoff

A Creamy, Cozy Dinner Everyone Asks For

If you love comforting meals that practically cook themselves, this Slow Cooker Amish Beef Stroganoff will quickly become a favorite. It’s the kind of recipe that feels like something straight from grandma’s kitchen—rich, creamy, and incredibly satisfying.

The beauty of this dish is its simplicity. With just four pantry-friendly ingredients, you can create a hearty meal that tastes like it took hours of effort. All you have to do is combine everything in the slow cooker and let it simmer slowly until the beef becomes tender and the sauce turns velvety and flavorful.

It’s perfect for busy weeknights, potlucks, family dinners, or cold evenings when you want something warm and comforting without standing over the stove.

Serve it over buttered egg noodles, mashed potatoes, or fluffy rice so the creamy sauce can soak in. Pair it with a simple green vegetable like steamed green beans, roasted broccoli, or a fresh salad for a balanced meal. Add warm dinner rolls or crusty bread to mop up every last drop of sauce.

Ingredients (Serves 6)

2 pounds beef stew meat, cut into 1-inch cubes

2 cans (10.5 oz each) cream of mushroom soup

1 packet (1 oz) onion soup mix

1 cup sour cream

Optional for serving:

Egg noodles, mashed potatoes, or steamed rice

Fresh parsley for garnish

Directions

1. Prepare the Slow Cooker

Place the raw beef stew meat into the bottom of a 5–6 quart slow cooker. Spread it into an even layer so it cooks evenly.

2. Add the Sauce Ingredients

Spoon the cream of mushroom soup over the beef.

Sprinkle the onion soup mix evenly across the top.

3. Mix Everything Together

Using a wooden spoon or spatula, gently stir everything together directly in the slow cooker until the beef pieces are well coated with the thick soup mixture.

4. Slow Cook

Cover with the lid and cook:

LOW: 7–8 hours

HIGH: 3½–4 hours

The beef should become very tender, and the sauce should be hot and bubbly.

5. Stir in the Sour Cream

Once the beef is cooked, reduce the slow cooker to LOW or WARM.

Stir in the sour cream until the sauce becomes smooth and creamy. Let it heat through for about 10 minutes, but avoid boiling so the sour cream doesn’t curdle.

6. Taste and Serve

Season with salt and pepper if needed.

Serve the stroganoff hot over:

Buttered egg noodles

Mashed potatoes

Steamed rice

Variations & Helpful Tips

Milder Flavor

Use 1 can cream of mushroom soup + 1 can cream of chicken soup for a lighter taste.

Extra Creamy Version

Stir in 2–3 tablespoons cream cheese with the sour cream for a richer sauce.

Add Fresh Mushrooms

Add 1–2 cups sliced mushrooms on top of the beef before cooking.

Stretch the Recipe

Add ½ pound extra beef and about ¼ cup beef broth for more sauce.

Lower-Calorie Option

Use light sour cream and serve over cauliflower rice or zucchini noodles.

Lower Sodium Alternative

Replace the onion soup mix with:

1 tablespoon dried minced onion

½ teaspoon garlic powder

Pinch of paprika

Storing & Reheating

Refrigerator:

Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3–4 days.

Reheating:

Warm gently on the stovetop over low heat. Add a splash of water or beef broth to loosen the sauce.

Freezing Tip:

You can freeze the cooked beef mixture before adding sour cream for up to 3 months. Add fresh sour cream when reheating.
