A creamy, nostalgic casserole that brings everyone back for seconds

This classic oven-baked dish is the definition of simple comfort food. Tender beef, crisp green beans, and a rich mushroom sauce come together in one warm, bubbly casserole that feels like a hug from the past. With just four ingredients and minimal prep, it’s perfect for busy evenings or when you’re craving something hearty and homemade.

Ingredients

500 g (1 lb) beef, cut into bite-sized pieces

3 cups (about 400 g) green beans (fresh, trimmed or frozen)

1 can (300 g) condensed cream of mushroom soup

1/2 cup (120 ml) water or milk

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

Prepare the casserole: Lightly grease a baking dish. Spread the beef evenly across the bottom.

Add the green beans over the beef layer.

Mix the sauce: In a bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup with water or milk until smooth.

Pour and cover: Pour the sauce evenly over the beef and beans. Cover the dish with foil.

Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until the beef is tender and the casserole is hot and bubbling.

Rest and serve: Let it sit for a few minutes before serving.

Swap beef for ground beef or shredded chicken for a different twist.

Add a handful of shredded cheese on top during the last 10 minutes for a golden finish.

Season with black pepper, garlic powder, or dried herbs if you want extra depth.
