Homemade Bread – Crispy Buns

Homemade Bread – Crispy Buns
Ingredients:
- 500 g wheat flour (bread flour or type T55)
- 10 g salt
- 10 g sugar
- 10 g dry yeast (or 20 g fresh yeast)
- 300 ml warm water
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (optional, for softer rolls)
Instructions:
- Activate the Yeast:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast, sugar, and a small amount of warm water. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy. - Make the Dough:
Add the flour, salt, and oil (if using). Gradually pour in the remaining warm water while mixing until a smooth dough forms. - Knead the Dough:
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, until it becomes soft, smooth, and elastic. - First Rise:
Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size. - Shape the Buns:
Gently deflate the dough by pressing it down. Divide it into equal portions and shape each into a round or oval bun. Place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper or lightly dusted with flour. - Second Rise:
Cover the buns and let them rise again for 30–40 minutes. - Bake:
Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Make a small slit on top of each bun with a sharp knife, then bake for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown and crispy. - Cool:
Remove from the oven and let the buns cool on a wire rack before serving.
