Doritos-Crusted Fried Mozzarella Sticks

Doritos-Crusted Fried Mozzarella Sticks

These Doritos-Crusted Fried Mozzarella Sticks are ultra crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside. Crushed Doritos replace traditional breadcrumbs, giving the cheese sticks a bold cheesy flavor and extra crunch. Perfect as a snack, party appetizer, or game-day treat.

Ingredients

8–10 mozzarella string cheese sticks

2 cups Doritos chips, crushed into fine crumbs (nacho cheese flavor works great)

½ cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs

2 tablespoons milk

½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

½ teaspoon paprika (optional)

Vegetable oil for frying

For serving

Marinara sauce

Ranch dressing

Garlic sauce (optional)

Instructions

1. Crush the Doritos

Place Doritos chips in a zip-top bag and crush them using a rolling pin or your hands until they become fine crumbs.

Pour the crumbs into a shallow bowl.

2. Prepare the Coating Stations

Set up three bowls:

Flour bowl – add flour.

Egg bowl – beat eggs with milk.

Doritos bowl – crushed Doritos mixed with garlic powder and paprika.

3. Coat the Cheese Sticks

Take one mozzarella stick and:

Roll it in flour.

Dip it in the egg mixture.

Coat it completely in Doritos crumbs.

For extra crunch:

Dip again in egg

Coat again in Doritos crumbs.

Press the crumbs gently so they stick well.

4. Freeze

Place the coated sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Freeze them for 20–30 minutes.

This step prevents the cheese from melting too quickly during frying.

5. Heat the Oil

In a deep pan or fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

6. Fry

Carefully place a few frozen sticks into the hot oil and fry for 1–2 minutes, until:

Golden brown

Crispy outside

Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.

7. Serve

Serve hot with:

Marinara sauce

Ranch dressing

Garlic dip

Enjoy the crispy Doritos coating and the gooey cheese pull!
