Golden Beef Gravy Puff Pie

 

A rich, comforting pie filled with savory beef sausage in a creamy homemade gravy, all tucked beneath a golden, flaky puff pastry crust. Perfect for cozy family dinners or whenever you’re craving classic comfort food.

 

 

 

 

Ingredients

For the Filling

1 pound beef sausage

2 cups whole milk

¼ cup all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 small onion, finely diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

½ teaspoon dried thyme

½ teaspoon paprika

1 cup frozen peas and carrots (optional)

For the Crust

1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

 

 

 

 

Instructions

Prepare the Filling In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the beef sausage, breaking it into small crumbles, until fully browned. Remove any excess grease if needed.

Add the Aromatics Stir in the butter, diced onion, and minced garlic. Cook for 3–4 minutes, until the onion is soft and fragrant.

Make the Gravy Sprinkle the flour evenly over the sausage mixture and stir well. Cook for 1–2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.

Add the Milk Gradually pour in the milk, whisking constantly to create a smooth, creamy gravy. Continue cooking until the mixture thickens, about 5–7 minutes.

Season the Filling Add salt, black pepper, thyme, and paprika. Stir in the peas and carrots, if using. Simmer for another 2 minutes, then remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Assemble the Pie Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Transfer the filling to a greased pie dish or baking dish.

 

 

 

 

Top with Puff Pastry Lay the puff pastry sheet over the filling, trimming any excess. Press the edges to seal, then cut a few small slits in the top to allow steam to escape.

Brush and Bake Brush the pastry with the beaten egg for a glossy, golden finish.

Bake to Perfection Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and beautifully golden brown.
