Golden Homestyle Amish Beef & Yellow Squash Bake

Golden Homestyle Amish Beef & Yellow Squash Bake (4 Ingredients, Melt-in-Your-Mouth Comfort)
My aunt brought this dish to a spring gathering, and it instantly became the star of the table. Every bite was unbelievably tender, rich, and comforting—no one could believe it only used four simple ingredients. This easy Amish-style casserole combines juicy ground beef, sweet yellow squash, and gooey melted cheese, all baked slowly until perfectly soft with lightly golden edges. It’s the kind of cozy, no-fuss meal you’ll want to make again and again.
Servings: 6
Ingredients:
1 lb (450 g) ground beef
4 cups yellow squash, thinly sliced
1 small onion, thinly sliced
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Lightly grease a medium-sized baking dish.
Cook the beef:
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
Layer the casserole:
Spread half of the sliced yellow squash on the bottom of the baking dish.
Add half of the cooked ground beef on top.
Sprinkle with some sliced onion and a layer of cheese.
Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.
Bake low and slow:
Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for another 15–20 minutes, until the top is bubbly and lightly golden.
Rest and serve:
Let the casserole sit for 5–10 minutes before serving so it sets nicely.
Serving Suggestions:
Serve this casserole straight from the dish, scooping down through the tender layers. It pairs beautifully with a crisp green salad, steamed green beans, or warm dinner rolls to soak up the flavorful juices.
Tips:
For extra flavor, you can lightly season the beef with salt and pepper while cooking.
Swap cheddar with mozzarella or a cheese blend for a different twist.
Leftovers reheat wonderfully and can be wrapped in tortillas or served over rice for a quick next-day meal.
Simple, hearty, and incredibly satisfying—this 4-ingredient casserole proves that comfort food doesn’t need to be complicated.
