Ingredients

1 lb (450 g) lean ground beef

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 small onion, diced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 small green cabbage, chopped (about 6 cups)

1 cup uncooked long-grain white rice

1 (15 oz) can diced tomatoes, undrained

1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce

2 cups beef broth

1 tablespoon tomato paste

1 teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

½ teaspoon dried thyme

½ teaspoon salt, or to taste

¼ teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)

2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

Heat the olive oil in a large deep skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain excess grease if needed.

Stir in the diced onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened. Add the garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.

Mix in the chopped cabbage and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it begins to wilt.

Add the uncooked rice, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, beef broth, paprika, Italian seasoning, thyme, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well to combine.

Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for 25–30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the rice is tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed.

Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. If the mixture becomes too thick, stir in a splash of beef broth or water.

Remove from the heat and let the skillet rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm. For an extra indulgent finish, sprinkle shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese over the top and let it melt before serving.

Serving Suggestions

Pair with warm crusty bread or buttery dinner rolls.

Serve with a crisp green salad for a balanced meal.

Top with a dollop of sour cream for extra creaminess.

Storage

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop or in the microwave. This dish also freezes well for up to 3 months, making it a great make-ahead family meal.
