Surf & Turf Filet Mignon with Garlic Butter Shrimp & Silky Pan Gravy

A Restaurant-Style Dinner That Turns Any Night Into a Special Occasion

Some meals are made to impress—and this is one of them. Tender, perfectly seared filet mignon paired with juicy garlic butter shrimp and finished with a rich, creamy pan gravy. It’s elegant, indulgent, and surprisingly simple to prepare at home.

Ingredients:

For the Filet Steaks:

2 filet mignon steaks (6–8 oz / 170–225g each)

Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 tablespoon olive oil

2 tablespoons butter

For the Garlic Shrimp:

½ lb (225g) shrimp, peeled and deveined

2 tablespoons butter

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Salt and black pepper, to taste

1 tablespoon chopped parsley (optional)

For the Creamy Pan Gravy:

1 tablespoon butter

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

1 cup (240ml) beef broth

½ cup (120ml) heavy cream

Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

1. Season & Sear the Steaks:

Pat the filet mignon dry and season generously with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the steaks for 3–4 minutes per side for medium-rare (adjust to your preference).

Add butter to the pan and baste the steaks for extra flavor. Remove and let rest.

2. Cook the Garlic Shrimp:

In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté until fragrant (about 30 seconds).

Add shrimp, season lightly, and cook for 2–3 minutes, flipping once, until pink and opaque.

Finish with lemon juice and parsley, then set aside.

3. Make the Creamy Pan Gravy:

Reduce heat to medium. Add butter to the same pan, then whisk in flour to form a roux.

Slowly pour in beef broth, whisking constantly until smooth.

Stir in heavy cream and simmer until thickened. Season to taste.

To Serve:

Place each filet on a plate, spoon the creamy pan gravy over the top, and pile the garlic shrimp alongside or right on the steak for a stunning presentation.
