The Ultimate Classic Lasagna

The Ultimate Classic Lasagna – Rich, Creamy & Comforting Homemade Favorite
A perfectly layered lasagna with a hearty meat sauce, silky béchamel, and melted cheese in every bite. This is the kind of dish that brings everyone straight to the table.
1. Rich Meat Sauce (Bolognese Style)
A deeply flavorful tomato meat sauce that forms the heart of the lasagna.
Ingredients:
500g ground beef
1 large onion, finely diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
800g tomato passata (or crushed tomatoes)
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried basil
Salt and black pepper, to taste
Olive oil
Instructions: Heat a drizzle of olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until soft and translucent. Stir in the garlic and cook for another minute. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Mix in the tomato paste, then pour in the tomato passata. Season with oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Let the sauce simmer gently for 20–30 minutes until thick, rich, and full of flavor.
2. Creamy Béchamel Sauce
Smooth, velvety white sauce that balances the richness of the meat.
Ingredients:
50g butter
50g all-purpose flour
600ml whole milk
Pinch of nutmeg (optional)
Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions: Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for about 1–2 minutes to form a smooth paste (roux). Gradually add the milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Continue stirring until the sauce thickens and becomes creamy. Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg if using.
3. Assembling the Lasagna
Ingredients:
Lasagna sheets (no-boil or fresh)
300g mozzarella cheese, shredded
50g parmesan cheese, grated
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Add a layer of lasagna sheets, followed by meat sauce, béchamel sauce, and a sprinkle of mozzarella. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with béchamel on top. Sprinkle generously with mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
Bake for 35–45 minutes, until golden, bubbly, and beautifully browned on top. Let it rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing to help the layers set.
Serving Suggestion
Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm. Pair it with a simple green salad or garlic bread for the perfect comforting meal.
