Ingredients
For the Salisbury Steaks:
1½ lbs (680g) ground beef
½ cup breadcrumbs
1 large egg
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
½ tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
For the Tomato Gravy:
1 medium onion, sliced
1 bell pepper, sliced
1 can (15 oz / 425g) tomato sauce
1 cup beef broth
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp paprika
½ tsp dried thyme
Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
Shape the mixture into 4–6 oval patties.
Place the sliced onions and bell peppers in the bottom of the slow cooker.
Arrange the beef patties on top of the vegetables.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the tomato sauce, beef broth, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper.
Pour the tomato gravy mixture evenly over the patties.
Cover and cook on LOW for 6–7 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours, until the patties are tender and fully cooked.
If you’d like a thicker gravy, mix 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 2 tablespoons cold water and stir it into the sauce during the last 20 minutes of cooking.
Serve hot with mashed potatoes, steamed rice, or egg noodles, and spoon plenty of the rich tomato gravy over the top.
Tips
Add sliced mushrooms for extra savory flavor.
Use ground turkey as a lighter alternative.
Garnish with fresh parsley for a pop of color and freshness.
