Tom Selleck’s Daughter Hannah Chose Horses Over Hollywood—and Built an Extraordinary Life

On December 16, 1988, Tom Selleck and Jillie Mack welcomed Hannah Margaret Selleck, the daughter who pulled a television superstar toward a quieter life.

Now 37, Hannah never chased Hollywood.

She chose horses.

She became an international show jumper, breeder, and business owner.

Raised on her family’s 65-acre ranch in Ventura County, California, she started riding at four.

By ten, she was competing.

Tom and Jillie married on August 7, 1987, after meeting during a London stage production.

It was his second marriage.

Her first.

Tom had already adopted Kevin, making Hannah his only daughter.

At the height of “Magnum, P.I.” (1980), he chose family over constant fame.

“I’m a fairly private person… It’s always about them.”

Years later, he returned with “Blue Bloods” (2010).

Hannah’s childhood wasn’t spent on film sets.

It was filled with horses, cows, dogs, cats, and open fields.

Her parents encouraged many interests.

By fourteen, horses had won.

“Both my parents are hard workers… they encouraged me to find my passion.”

They also insisted on a normal childhood.

She stayed in regular school.

Went to dances.

Went to prom.

Then earned a communication degree from Loyola Marymount University.

She tried public relations.

Six months later, she quit.

Weekend riding wasn’t enough.

She later completed an MBA at Pepperdine in 2023.

The results spoke for themselves.

Junior team silver medals.

A reserve championship.

USEF titles.

Her first Grand Prix victory in 2010.

By 2012, she was competing professionally across Europe and America.

She also founded Descanso Farm.

Tom supported the dream from the beginning.

“He liked the idea of developing young horses.”

Then came the accident.

At Spruce Meadows in 2018, a stirrup failed to release.

She shattered her tibia and fibula.

Six hours of surgery followed.

Doctors feared she might never run again.

She fought back through therapy, yoga, meditation, and relentless work.

Eventually, she returned to five-star competition.

In 2025, Hannah shared that she was married to Trent, a general contractor, while keeping their private life out of the spotlight.

Her outlook says it all.

“Wins feel like the reward for doing the work… when you have failed hundreds of times before.”

She inherited Tom Selleck’s name.

She earned her own.
