Elegant Smoked Salmon Cucumber Bites with Herbed Cream Cheese
These fresh, low-carb cucumber canapés are the perfect balance of elegance and simplicity. Crisp cucumber rounds replace bread for a lighter base, while a creamy herbed cheese spread—bright with dill, chives, capers, and lemon—adds rich, tangy flavor. Topped with silky smoked salmon, they look impressive but come together in minutes, making them ideal for brunches, gatherings, or a quick gourmet-style snack.
Servings: 8
Ingredients
1 large English cucumber, ends trimmed
8 oz (225 g) full-fat cream cheese, softened
2 tbsp finely chopped fresh dill (plus extra for garnish)
2 tbsp finely chopped fresh chives
1 ½ tbsp capers, drained and finely chopped
1 tsp finely grated lemon zest
1–2 tsp fresh lemon juice (to taste)
¼ tsp kosher salt (or to taste)
⅛ tsp freshly ground black pepper
4 oz (115 g) thinly sliced smoked salmon, cut into small strips or ribbons
1–2 tsp extra-virgin olive oil (optional, for a light finish)
Lemon wedges, for serving
Instructions
Prepare the cucumber
Slice the cucumber into even rounds, about ½ inch (1–1.5 cm) thick. Pat them dry gently with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
Make the herbed cream cheese
In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, dill, chives, capers, lemon zest, and lemon juice. Mix until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Assemble the canapés
Spread a generous layer of the herbed cream cheese onto each cucumber slice.
Add the smoked salmon
Gently place a ribbon or small piece of smoked salmon on top of each round, folding it slightly for a more elegant look.
Finish and garnish
Drizzle lightly with olive oil if desired, and sprinkle with extra dill for a fresh finish.
Serve
Arrange on a serving platter and serve well-chilled with lemon wedges on the side.
Serving Tips
These bites pair beautifully with sparkling water with lemon, iced herbal tea, or a crisp white drink. Serve them alongside olives, nuts, or a light salad for a complete spread. They also make a perfect starter before grilled fish or roasted chicken.
Pro Tips
For extra crunch, add a thin slice of radish under the salmon.
Use whipped cream cheese for an even lighter texture.
Assemble just before serving to keep the cucumbers fresh and crisp.
Light, flavorful, and effortlessly refined—these canapés prove that simple ingredients can create something truly special.
