Nana Joyce’s Sweet & Salty Strawberry Pretzel Pie Delight

Nana Joyce’s Sweet & Salty Strawberry Pretzel Pie Delight

This beloved recipe comes straight from Grandma Joyce’s kitchen—a dessert she claimed could get anyone running to the table in seconds. And honestly, she wasn’t wrong. With its irresistible combination of sweet and salty flavors, this strawberry pretzel pie features a crisp, buttery pretzel crust, a light and creamy filling, and a vibrant strawberry gelatin topping bursting with fresh berries.

It may look like a showstopper in a glass pie dish, but don’t be fooled—it’s surprisingly simple to prepare. Perfect for weeknights, small gatherings, or when you just want a nostalgic treat that feels like a classic Midwestern potluck favorite, scaled down for everyday enjoyment.

Ingredients (Serves 8)

For the Pretzel Crust:

2 cups crushed pretzels

¾ cup melted butter

3 tablespoons sugar

For the Cream Layer:

1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened

¾ cup sugar

1 (8 oz) container whipped topping (like Cool Whip)

For the Strawberry Topping:

1 (6 oz) package strawberry gelatin

2 cups boiling water

2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F). In a bowl, mix the crushed pretzels, melted butter, and sugar until well combined. Press the mixture firmly into the bottom of a pie dish to form an even crust. Bake for 8–10 minutes, then let it cool completely.

2. Make the Cream Layer:

In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and sugar until smooth and creamy. Gently fold in the whipped topping until fully combined. Spread this mixture evenly over the cooled crust, making sure to seal all the way to the edges (this helps prevent the gelatin from seeping through). Chill in the fridge while preparing the topping.

3. Prepare the Strawberry Layer:

Dissolve the strawberry gelatin in boiling water, stirring until completely dissolved. Let it cool slightly (do not let it set), then stir in the sliced fresh strawberries.

4. Assemble the Pie:

Carefully pour the strawberry mixture over the chilled cream layer. Refrigerate for at least 3–4 hours, or until fully set.

Serving Suggestions

Serve this pie well-chilled, straight from the refrigerator, so the layers stay beautifully defined and the topping remains glossy. Slice into wedges and garnish with extra fresh strawberries or a small dollop of whipped topping if desired.

This dessert pairs perfectly with simple savory meals like grilled burgers, BBQ chicken, or sausages. For drinks, try it with iced tea, lemonade, or even a light rosé for a relaxed evening treat.

Tips for Success

Make sure the crust is completely cool before adding the cream layer.

Spread the cream layer all the way to the edges to create a seal.

Let the gelatin cool slightly before pouring to avoid melting the cream layer.

A nostalgic, crowd-pleasing dessert that’s as easy as it is delicious—just one bite, and you’ll see why Nana Joyce swore by it.
