Homestyle Amish Tomato Soup Beef Casserole

Homestyle Amish Tomato Soup Beef Casserole

There’s something deeply comforting about a simple, no-fuss casserole that comes together with pantry staples and fills the kitchen with a rich, savory aroma. This Amish-inspired dish is as easy as it gets—raw ground beef layered into a baking dish, topped with tomato soup and a handful of everyday ingredients, then baked until tender and hearty. It’s the kind of meal that feels like home in every bite and keeps everyone coming back for seconds.

Ingredients (Serves 6)

500 g (1 lb) ground beef (raw)

1 can (about 300 g) condensed tomato soup

1 cup uncooked rice (or substitute with cooked pasta)

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 cup milk or water

Salt and black pepper, to taste

1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for topping)

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

Layer the beef: Spread the raw ground beef evenly in the bottom of a deep casserole dish. Season lightly with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

Add the vegetables and rice: Sprinkle the chopped onion and uncooked rice evenly over the beef.

Prepare the sauce: In a bowl, mix the tomato soup with milk (or water) until smooth.

Assemble the casserole: Pour the tomato soup mixture evenly over the entire dish. Do not stir—this helps the layers cook properly.

Bake covered with foil for about 1 hour.

Optional finish: Remove the foil, sprinkle cheese on top, and bake uncovered for another 10–15 minutes until melted and slightly golden.

Rest before serving: Let the casserole sit for 5–10 minutes to set before serving.

Serving Suggestions

Serve this casserole hot with something fresh and light to balance its richness. Steamed green beans, buttered peas, or a crisp lettuce salad with a tangy dressing all pair beautifully. Add warm dinner rolls, cornbread, or thick slices of buttered bread to soak up the flavorful tomato sauce. For a classic touch, finish with applesauce or a simple dessert like vanilla pudding or pie.

Helpful Tips

You can swap rice for sliced potatoes or cooked noodles for a different texture.

Add a layer of sliced bell peppers or mushrooms for extra flavor.

For a richer taste, use half milk and half broth instead of water.

This cozy casserole is proof that the simplest ingredients can create the most memorable meals. Perfect for busy days, family dinners, or whenever you need something warm and satisfying.
