2 cups cooked ham, diced
1 smoked ham hock (or smoked sausage), sliced
1 medium onion, diced
2 celery stalks, chopped
2 carrots, chopped
3–4 cloves garlic, minced
6–7 cups chicken broth (or water + bouillon)
1 bay leaf
1 tsp dried thyme
½ tsp black pepper (adjust to taste)
Salt, as needed
Optional: chopped parsley for garnish
Instructions
Add the rinsed beans, ham, ham hock (or sausage), onion, celery, carrots, and garlic into the slow cooker.
Pour in the chicken broth until everything is well covered.
Add the bay leaf, thyme, and black pepper. Stir gently to combine.

Once cooked, remove the ham hock, shred any meat, and return it to the soup. Discard the bone.
Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
Serve hot, optionally garnished with fresh parsley.
Tip: For a creamier texture, mash a small portion of the beans before serving.
