Melt-in-Your-Mouth Classic Butter Shortbread Cookies
These buttery shortbread cookies are crisp on the outside, tender on the inside, and made with only a few simple ingredients. Perfect for tea time, holidays, or whenever you crave a sweet homemade treat!
Ingredients
250 g (2 cups) all-purpose flour
170 g (3/4 cup) cold unsalted butter, cubed
100 g (1/2 cup) sugar
50 g for the dough
50 g for sprinkling on top
Instructions
Prepare the Dough
In a large bowl, combine the flour and 50 g of sugar. Add the cold butter and rub it into the flour mixture with your fingertips until it resembles fine crumbs.
Form the Dough
Gently press the mixture together until a soft dough forms. Do not overmix.
Shape the Cookies
Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1 cm thickness. Cut into your favorite cookie shapes using a cutter or knife.
Add the Sugar Topping
Place the cookies on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and sprinkle the remaining sugar over the top.
Bake
Bake in a preheated oven at 170°C (340°F) for 15–20 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
Cool & Serve
Let the cookies cool completely before serving. Enjoy with tea, coffee, or a glass of milk!
Tip: Add a touch of vanilla or lemon zest for extra flavor.
