Poor Man’s Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches

Poor Man’s Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1 large yellow onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, crushed
1 medium green bell pepper, diced small
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder
½ tsp salt (or to taste)
½ tsp black pepper
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (optional but recommended for flavor)
6 slices provolone cheese or American cheese
4 hoagie rolls or sandwich buns
1 tbsp butter or oil
Instructions
Cook the vegetables
Heat the butter or oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and diced bell pepper. Cook for about 4–5 minutes until they start to soften.
Add the garlic
Stir in the crushed garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
Brown the beef
Add the ground beef to the skillet. Break it apart with a spatula and cook until fully browned, about 6–8 minutes. Drain any excess grease if needed.
Season the mixture
Sprinkle in the onion powder, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well and let everything cook together for 2–3 minutes so the flavors combine.
Melt the cheese
Reduce heat to low. Lay the cheese slices on top of the beef mixture and let them melt for about 1 minute. You can cover the pan briefly to help it melt faster.
Prepare the rolls
Lightly toast the hoagie rolls in a skillet or oven for extra flavor.
Assemble the sandwiches
Spoon the cheesy beef mixture into each roll and serve immediately.
Optional Add-Ons
You can customize your sandwich with:
Mushrooms
Hot peppers or jalapeños
Mayonnaise or chipotle mayo
Extra cheese sauce
Tip: If you want the sandwich to taste even closer to a real Philly cheesesteak, cook the beef a little longer so the onions caramelize and become sweeter.
