Silky Vanilla Egg Custard

Ingredients

4 large eggs

500 ml (2 cups) whole milk

100 g (1/2 cup) sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/4 tsp salt

Ground nutmeg or cinnamon, for topping (optional)

 

 

 

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 160°C (320°F).

Warm the Milk

In a saucepan, gently heat the milk until warm but not boiling.

Prepare the Custard Mixture

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, vanilla, and salt until smooth. Slowly pour in the warm milk while whisking continuously.

Strain for Extra Smoothness

Strain the mixture through a fine sieve for the silkiest texture.

Fill the Dishes

Pour the custard into ramekins or a baking dish. Sprinkle a little nutmeg or cinnamon on top if desired.

Bake in a Water Bath

Place the ramekins in a larger baking pan and carefully add hot water halfway up the sides. Bake for 35–45 minutes, or until the center is just set.

Cool & Serve

Let the custard cool slightly, then chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.
