Ingredients

For the Beef

– 2 lbs (900 g) beef stew meat, cut into bite-sized cubes

– 1 can (10.5 oz / 298 g) cream of mushroom soup

– 1 can (10.5 oz / 298 g) cream of celery soup

– 1 packet (1 oz / 28 g) dry onion soup mix

– 1 cup (240 ml) beef broth

– 1½ cups (225 g) frozen mixed vegetables, such as peas, carrots, and corn

– ½ teaspoon garlic powder

– ½ teaspoon black pepper

– Salt, to taste

For the Dumplings

– 1 can (16 oz / 450 g) refrigerated biscuit dough

Instructions

1. Add the beef.

Place the cubed beef in the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker. Sprinkle with garlic powder, black pepper, and a small amount of salt.

2. Make the creamy sauce.

In a bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, cream of celery soup, onion soup mix, and beef broth until smooth.

3. Slow cook.

Pour the creamy mixture over the beef. Cover and cook on LOW for 6–7 hours, or until the beef is tender.

4. Add the vegetables.

Stir in the frozen mixed vegetables during the final 45–60 minutes of cooking.

5. Add the dumplings.

Cut the refrigerated biscuit dough into halves or quarters and gently place the pieces over the beef mixture. Cover and cook on HIGH for about 30–45 minutes, or until the dumplings are puffed and cooked through in the center.

6. Serve hot.

Give the beef and creamy gravy a gentle stir, then spoon into bowls with plenty of fluffy dumplings on top.

Helpful Tips

– For extra flavor, sear the beef in a hot skillet before adding it to the slow cooker.

– Avoid lifting the lid while the dumplings are cooking so they steam properly.

– If you prefer, replace the biscuit dough with frozen tater tots for a crispy, hearty topping. Add them according to the package directions.

– Serve with a simple green salad or crusty bread for a complete comfort-food dinner.
