Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (480 ml) heavy cream
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

 

Instructions (No-Cook Method)

  1. Mix the base
    In a large bowl, whisk together the milk and sugar until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  2. Add cream and flavoring
    Stir in the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix gently until well combined.
  3. Chill
    Cover the mixture and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (or overnight for best flavor).
  4. Churn
    Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions (usually 20–25 minutes).
  5. Freeze to set
    Transfer the ice cream to a freezer-safe container. Cover and freeze for 2–4 hours until firm.
  6. Serve
    Scoop and enjoy!

If You Don’t Have an Ice Cream Maker

  • Pour the mixture into a shallow container
  • Freeze for 45 minutes
  • Stir well to break ice crystals
  • Repeat stirring every 30 minutes for 3–4 hours until creamy

Optional Add-Ins (add during last minutes of churning)

  • Chocolate chips
  • Crushed cookies
  • Fresh fruit
  • Caramel or chocolate swirl
