Golden French Toast with Soul

  • Golden French Toast with Soul

Crispy edges • Custardy center • Pure comfort

Time

Prep: 10 minutes

Cook: 15 minutes

Total: ~25 minutes

Serves: 3–4 people (6–8 slices)

Ingredients (Full Version)

The Base

6–8 thick slices of bread

(brioche, challah, milk bread, or slightly stale white bread)

The Custard

3 large eggs

¾ cup milk (or ½ cup milk + ¼ cup heavy cream for extra richness)

2 tbsp sugar (white or brown)

1 tsp vanilla extract

½ tsp cinnamon (optional but lovely)

Pinch of salt (balances sweetness)

For Cooking

2–3 tbsp butter (add more as needed)

1 tsp neutral oil (optional—prevents butter from burning)

For Serving

Powdered sugar

Maple syrup or honey

Fresh fruit (bananas, berries, apples)

Optional extras: nuts, chocolate chips, yogurt, whipped cream

Step-by-Step Instructions

1️⃣ Make the Custard

In a wide bowl, whisk together:

Eggs

Milk / cream

Sugar

Vanilla

Cinnamon

Salt

Whisk until smooth and slightly frothy. This is the heart of your French toast—treat it gently

2️⃣ Soak the Bread

Dip each slice into the custard for 10–20 seconds per side

Let it absorb, but don’t let it fall apart

Thick bread = more soaking, thin bread = quicker dip

Tip: Brioche loves a good soak—this is where the magic happens.

3️⃣ Cook to Golden Perfection

Heat a pan over medium heat

Add butter (and a little oil if using)

Once melted and bubbling, add bread slices

Cook:

2–3 minutes per side

Until golden brown outside and soft inside

Adjust heat if browning too fast

Add more butter between batches if needed

4️⃣ Serve with Love

Stack warm slices on a plate

Dust generously with powdered sugar

Drizzle with syrup or honey

Add fruits, nuts, or whatever makes you smile

Serve immediately—French toast waits for no one

Banana Bliss – Add sliced bananas to the pan in the last minute
