Slow Cooker 4-Ingredient Brown Gravy Bangers

Slow Cooker 4-Ingredient Brown Gravy Bangers

This slow cooker brown gravy bangers recipe is a hearty comfort meal made with only four simple ingredients. The sausages slowly cook in a rich brown gravy with onions until they become tender, juicy, and full of flavor. It’s an easy “set-it-and-forget-it” dish that’s perfect for busy days and family dinners.

Servings

4 servings

Ingredients

8 thick pork sausages (about 2 pounds), uncooked

2 cans (10.5 oz each) condensed brown gravy or brown gravy with mushrooms

1 packet (1 oz) brown gravy mix

1 medium yellow onion, sliced into thick wedges

Instructions

1. Brown the Sausages

Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sausages and cook for 5–7 minutes, turning them occasionally until browned on all sides. They do not need to be fully cooked yet. Transfer the browned sausages to the slow cooker.

2. Add the Onions

Place the sliced onion wedges around and on top of the sausages inside the slow cooker. The onions will soften and blend into the gravy while cooking.

3. Prepare the Gravy

In a bowl, whisk together the condensed brown gravy and the dry brown gravy mix until smooth.

If the mixture is very thick, add about ¼ cup water to help it pour easily.

4. Combine Everything

Pour the gravy mixture over the sausages and onions in the slow cooker. Try to cover most of the sausages with the sauce.

5. Slow Cook

Cover and cook:

LOW: 6–7 hours

HIGH: 3–4 hours

The sausages will become tender and the gravy will turn rich and flavorful.

6. Finish and Serve

Stir the gravy gently before serving. Taste and add a little salt or black pepper if needed.

Serving Ideas

Serve the sausages with plenty of gravy over:

Mashed potatoes

Buttered egg noodles

Steamed rice

Thick slices of bread for an open-faced sandwich

Add sides like peas, green beans, coleslaw, or a simple salad to balance the rich gravy.

Tips & Variations

You can use beef sausages or bratwurst instead of pork.

Add baby carrots or mushrooms for extra flavor.

Stir in 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard to the gravy for a slight tang.

For a peppery taste, add ½ teaspoon coarse black pepper.

To stretch the meal, slice the cooked sausages into thick pieces during the last 30 minutes of cooking so they absorb more gravy.

This dish is simple, filling, and perfect for a cozy family dinner.
