Ingredients
1 kg potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
300 ml cooking cream or heavy cream
200 ml milk
200 g grated cheese (Emmental, Gruyère, or mozzarella)
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 tablespoons butter
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 teaspoon dried thyme or parsley (optional)
A pinch of nutmeg (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a baking dish with butter.
In a saucepan, combine the cream, milk, garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Heat gently for 2–3 minutes without boiling.
Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish. Pour over half of the cream mixture and sprinkle with half of the grated cheese.
Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.
Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for another 20–25 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly and the potatoes are tender.
Let rest for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley or thyme if desired.
