Ingredients

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or 6 chicken thighs)

1 packet dry onion soup mix

1 cup sour cream

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

Arrange the chicken pieces in a single layer in the prepared baking dish.

In a medium bowl, stir together the sour cream and dry onion soup mix until well combined.

Spread the mixture evenly over the chicken, coating each piece completely.

Cover the dish loosely with foil and bake for 35 minutes.

Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 20–25 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the top is golden brown.

Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Serving Suggestions

Serve this savory chicken over creamy mashed potatoes, buttered egg noodles, or fluffy rice to soak up every bit of the delicious onion sauce. Pair it with buttered peas, green beans, roasted carrots, or a crisp garden salad for a complete meal. Warm dinner rolls are the perfect finishing touch.

Tips

For extra richness, sprinkle a little shredded cheddar cheese over the top during the last 10 minutes of baking.

Bone-in chicken pieces can also be used; simply increase the baking time by 15–20 minutes.

Leftovers are delicious sliced for sandwiches or served over rice the next day.

Storage

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in the oven or microwave until warmed through.

A simple recipe, a comforting aroma, and a meal that feels like home—this vintage chicken bake is a true classic.
