Old Fashioned Goulash

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs ground beef or turkey
  • 3 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 large yellow onion, diced
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 2 (15 oz) cans tomato sauce
  • 2 (15 oz) cans diced tomatoes
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1–2 tsp salt (to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni (uncooked)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional topping)

Instructions

  1. Brown the Meat
    In a large pot or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef (or turkey) over medium heat until browned. Drain excess grease if needed.
  2. Add Onion & Garlic
    Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pot. Cook for 3–4 minutes, stirring often, until the onion softens.
  3. Add Liquids & Seasoning
    Pour in the water, tomato sauce, and diced tomatoes. Stir in soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  4. Simmer
    Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and let it simmer for 10–15 minutes to develop flavor.
  5. Add the Pasta
    Stir in the uncooked elbow macaroni. Cover again and cook for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is tender.
  6. Optional – Add Cheese
    Once the pasta is cooked, taste and adjust seasoning. If you like it cheesy, sprinkle cheddar cheese on top and let it melt before serving.

    Serve warm and enjoy this cozy, classic comfort dish!
