Old Fashioned Goulash
Ingredients
- 2 lbs ground beef or turkey
- 3 tsp minced garlic
- 1 large yellow onion, diced
- 2 1/2 cups water
- 2 (15 oz) cans tomato sauce
- 2 (15 oz) cans diced tomatoes
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1–2 tsp salt (to taste)
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 cups elbow macaroni (uncooked)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional topping)
Instructions
- Brown the Meat
In a large pot or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef (or turkey) over medium heat until browned. Drain excess grease if needed. - Add Onion & Garlic
Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pot. Cook for 3–4 minutes, stirring often, until the onion softens. - Add Liquids & Seasoning
Pour in the water, tomato sauce, and diced tomatoes. Stir in soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper. - Simmer
Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and let it simmer for 10–15 minutes to develop flavor. - Add the Pasta
Stir in the uncooked elbow macaroni. Cover again and cook for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is tender. - Optional – Add Cheese
Once the pasta is cooked, taste and adjust seasoning. If you like it cheesy, sprinkle cheddar cheese on top and let it melt before serving.
- Serve
Serve warm and enjoy this cozy, classic comfort dish!
