Savory Puff Pastry with Minced Meat & Cheese

Flaky, buttery pastry filled with juicy seasoned meat and melted cheese — perfect for snacks, parties, or a light dinner.

 

 

 

Ingredients

Pastry:

1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)

Butter (for greasing pan)

Filling:

300 g minced meat (beef, chicken, or turkey)

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced (optional but recommended)

1 tsp dried basil

½ tsp dried oregano (optional)

½ tsp black pepper

1 tsp salt (or to taste)

½ tsp paprika (optional)

1 tbsp olive oil

 

 

Cheese:

1 cup shredded mozzarella, cheddar, or a mix

2 tbsp grated Parmesan (optional)

 

 

For Brushing:

1 egg, beaten (for golden crust)

 

 

Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Filling

Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat.

Add chopped onion and sauté until soft (2–3 minutes).

Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.

Add minced meat and cook until browned and fully cooked (6–8 minutes).

Stir in salt, pepper, basil, oregano, and paprika.

Cook until liquid evaporates.

Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Stir in shredded cheese (reserve some for topping if desired).

2️⃣ Prepare the Pastry

Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F).

Grease a baking tray with butter or line with parchment paper.

Roll out puff pastry slightly on a floured surface.

3️⃣ Assemble

Option 1 – Pastry Roll

Spread meat mixture evenly over pastry.

Roll tightly like a log.

Slice into 2–3 cm pieces.

Place cut-side up on tray.

Option 2 – Pastry Pockets

Cut pastry into squares.

Spoon filling in center.

Fold into triangles or rectangles.

Seal edges with a fork.

4️⃣ Bake

Brush tops with beaten egg.

Sprinkle extra cheese on top (optional).

Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.

5️⃣ Serve

Let cool 5–10 minutes.

Serve warm.
