Simple 4-Ingredient Tuna Melt

Simple 4-Ingredient Tuna Melt

On cold, gloomy days, my mom always relied on this simple tuna melt. She believed you didn’t need a long list of ingredients to feel comforted—just a warm, crispy sandwich with a gooey, cheesy center. This humble recipe is proof that something simple can still be incredibly satisfying.

Golden, buttery bread on the outside and a creamy, melty filling on the inside—this tuna melt is the kind of meal that instantly lifts your mood.

Servings: 2

Ingredients:

1 (5-ounce) can tuna, well drained

1/4 cup mayonnaise

4 slices sandwich bread

4 slices yellow cheese (American or mild cheddar)

Instructions:

Prepare the filling:

In a small bowl, use a fork to break up the drained tuna. Add the mayonnaise and mix well until the tuna is evenly coated and creamy. Adjust the mayo to your taste if you prefer it richer or lighter.

Assemble the sandwiches:

Lay the 4 slices of bread on a clean surface. Divide the tuna mixture evenly between 2 slices, spreading it close to the edges.

Add the cheese:

Place 2 slices of cheese on top of the tuna mixture on each sandwich.

Close the sandwiches:

Top with the remaining slices of bread to form two sandwiches.

Cook the tuna melts:

Heat a skillet over medium heat. Lightly butter the outside of each sandwich (optional, but recommended for extra crispiness).

Place the sandwiches in the pan and cook for about 3–4 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.

Serve hot:

Remove from the pan, slice in half if desired, and serve immediately.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve your tuna melt hot with:

A handful of potato chips

Crunchy carrot sticks

Pickles (dill or bread-and-butter)

A small green salad

Or a warm bowl of tomato soup or chicken noodle soup

This easy tuna melt is budget-friendly, quick to make, and perfect for cozy lunches when you need something warm and comforting.
