Slow Cooker Amish-Style Sausage & Peppers Delight

Slow Cooker Amish-Style Sausage & Peppers Delight
A rustic, comforting slow-cooked dish inspired by simple Amish home cooking — where a few humble ingredients transform into something deeply flavorful, hearty, and satisfying.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 4–6 hours (low) / 2–3 hours (high)
Serves: 4–6
Ingredients (Just 3 Main Ones!)
1.5 to 2 lbs (700g–900g) smoked sausage or Italian sausage, sliced
3 large bell peppers (red, green, yellow), sliced
1 large onion, sliced
Optional (but recommended for extra flavor):
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp paprika
1/2 cup tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes (for a richer finish)
Instructions
Prepare the ingredients
Slice the sausage, peppers, and onion into even pieces for balanced cooking.
Layer in the slow cooker
Add onions and peppers first, then place the sausage on top. This allows the vegetables to release moisture and flavor the meat.
Season lightly
Add black pepper, paprika, and garlic if using. No need for extra liquid — the vegetables will create their own sauce.
Slow cook to perfection
Low: 4–6 hours
High: 2–3 hours
Stir once halfway through if possible.
Finish and serve
Mix everything gently before serving. The result is juicy sausage, tender peppers, and a naturally rich sauce.
