Ingredients
2 pounds round steak or cube steak
1 (10.5-ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 cup sour cream
1 (1-ounce) packet dry onion soup mix
Optional for Serving
Mashed potatoes, buttered egg noodles, or steamed rice
Green beans, roasted carrots, or a fresh garden salad
Warm dinner rolls or crusty bread
Instructions
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
Prepare the Beef
Cut the steak into serving-sized pieces if needed.
Arrange the pieces in a lightly greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
Make the Creamy Sauce
In a medium bowl, whisk together the condensed cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, and dry onion soup mix until smooth and well combined.
Assemble the Dish
Pour the sauce evenly over the steak, making sure each piece is well coated.
Bake
Cover tightly with aluminum foil.
Bake for 2 1/2 to 3 hours, or until the meat is fork-tender.
Serve
Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.
Spoon the tender steak and creamy gravy over mashed potatoes, noodles, or rice.
Tips for Success
For even more flavor, lightly brown the steak in a skillet before baking.
If the sauce becomes too thick, stir in a splash of beef broth or milk before serving.
Leftovers taste even better the next day as the flavors continue to develop.
Rich, creamy, and irresistibly tender, this classic Swiss steak is a simple recipe that always feels like home.
