Cheddar Bay Biscuits — Buttery, Cheesy, and Irresistibly Delicious!
These homemade cheddar biscuits are soft, fluffy, and packed with rich, cheesy flavor. Golden on the outside, tender in the center, and brushed with a delicious garlic-butter topping, they make the perfect side dish for soups, stews, roasted meats, or a cozy family dinner.
Ingredients
For the Biscuits:
– 2 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 tablespoon baking powder
– 1 teaspoon garlic powder
– ½ teaspoon salt
– ½ teaspoon paprika
– ½ cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
– 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
– ¾ cup cold buttermilk
For the Garlic Butter Topping:
– 3 tablespoons melted butter
– ½ teaspoon garlic powder
– 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Mix the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, garlic powder, salt, and paprika.
3. Cut in the butter: Add the cold cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to work it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
4. Add the cheese: Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese.
5. Make the dough: Pour in the cold buttermilk and gently stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix—the dough should be soft and slightly sticky.
6. Shape the biscuits: Drop large spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each biscuit.
7. Bake: Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.
8. Add the garlic butter: Mix the melted butter with garlic powder and parsley. Brush the warm biscuits generously with the garlic-butter mixture.
9. Serve warm and enjoy every buttery, cheesy bite!
Helpful Tip
For the fluffiest biscuits, keep the butter and buttermilk cold and avoid overmixing the dough. You can also add a pinch of cayenne pepper for a delicious little kick!
